you might want to consider getting a mediator involved here...professional, or a mutual friend...to work out the return of each other's property so neither of you has to meet.

Too bad it has to be this way, though.

Whenever I've broken up with someone, we've always had fair and civilized division of property. No drama. So I can't even imagine what it must be like for people to hold each other's stuff hostage.
