My mom got a kitty and my sister was adament that Misha should be declawed. I fought hard becasue no one believed me when I said cats nails can be easily clipped. You just take the tiniest amount off the front paws, no need to touch the back as kittehs do the trimming of the back claws themselves. Many many reasons not to declaw, one good reason is that if kitteh it ever escapesit can climb a tree if attacked.
Get kitteh used to a leash. Again I fought for this and my mom couldn't be happier taking Misha out into the yard. Misha took the the leash immediately, as if he knew it what it was for. Even if you never plan to take kitteh outside it's good to accustom her to a leash should there ever be a time you need to travel with puss, with kitteh on you can hop out of a car to let her do her poop. Resulting in one happy puss and one odor free car. Win Win for everyone.
