I am sure that you will be able to get him to trust you. It is obvious since you can get close and touch him that he is not far gone to the wild. I hope you can do something for him, even if it is just to have a vet look at it....you do realize that cats will not show weakness, even if they are in pain, until it is very bad. Please watch over him.

Get a collar and put it on the cat. Attach a waterproof note with your phone number on it
