You are conflating here and there. Not the same at all. That's like saying "I've lived here in Boston for almost 10 years, and I never recognize anyone when I go to new York city".

Granted they are both part of the uber-city that google earth shows to clearly dominate 600 miles of the east coast. But they have different sports teams and everything, and I doubt most of the residents of either would care to be told that they all live in one huge city, as far as anyone in the rest of the country is concerned.
