(2,681 posts)So sorry for your loss, it is so sad to lose a loyal old dog. It so happened that we had to have our Britney spaniel put down Monday morning. He was old for a bird dog, a little over 17 years. He had not hunted in a long time, although he still liked to point squirrels in the back yard. He had dementia and was almost blind. I think he had a stroke Friday night, he'd come to my bed, probably to get me and just fell down and started thrashing around. He could not stand up and he wouldn't eat or drink water even when we carried it to him. You could tell that the end had come and we got him into the vet early Monday so he would not suffer. He was a such a smart dog and real beauty. He was the best looking Britney we ever owned and we have had quite a few over the years.
