I think the mid- 60s-to-very-early 70s were the only period in the entire 20th century when one could make a case that the best music being made at the time was also the most popular. Though, you have to admit, there's a lot of crap on that list amid the gems.

I was a teenager in the 80s, and the Top 40 charts then had almost nothing to do with anything me and my friends (and my 'zine readers) listened to or cared about.
