21. Long-time reader of DU

and joined only recently. I find I have little to add to a conversation as my points are quickly added by posters who are faster than I am.

I'm a retired paralegal (specialized in corporate/business law) having spent the last 13 years of my career with a nation-wide engineering firm's legal department. When it was bought out by a much larger concern, I saw the handwriting on the wall and made a graceful exit before they could dump me.

I've lived in Indiana, Germany, Australia and now Washington. I travel when finances allow. I've done 35 years worth of genealogy research and am currently converting all information to a database. I pursue the usual household crafty things but I'm not a master of any one thing. I recently took tatting lessons. My household consists of my daughter, her husband, my 16-year old granddaughter and four cats. Since we have differing points of view, we don't discuss politics here which is why I appreciate DU so much. I believe the cats are neutral on politics but there's one who is a little suspicious.

I'm so left-wing that when I enter a crowded room and look to the left, there's no one there. I've been a liberal/progressive since sometime in the middle of the last century. Yes, I voted for Obama and will do so again.

After so many years of reading DU and getting to know many of you by your posts, I just want to say that I've enjoyed it all and look forward to more.
