2. It's based on a book, "The Returned," by Jason Mott.

I read it recently; it's quite good. http://www.amazon.com/The-Returned-Jason-Mott/dp/1480529907 The plot is a bit similar to the French series, but the ABC TV show is based directly on the Mott book. I might watch it. Starts March 9.
