The gum is supposed to give you a lift. The guy looks tired in the first scene. The thing is the cat throws him on the ground when he gets to the office. I think if the commercial was a little longer you would see him get to his feet and run towards the door only to be grabbed by the cat again. Then rinse and repeat about 20 times.
