though Ocracoke does have a landing strip for small private planes.

I was reading and comparing Hyde with Dare... it's light and day... Hyde is *much* more racially diverse than Dare (Dare is 99% white, vs hydes 60-ish %), and most of Hyde County residents live on the mainland, with their coast being on the sound. Hyde is also much poorer, and less educated.

Oh, and the only radio station on Ocracoke (they finally got one!) is on a non-commercial license. Yep, Public Radio. and no, not NPR... true local community radio.
