I've been working for 30 years as an assistant, doing everything from managing a $800K credit line/card program (saving the company $50K in late fees the first year alone) to planning international medical conferences, managing computer equipment for 200 employees all over the country, editing medical journal articles, writing newsletters, managing travel for 100 people, whatever gets thrown my way, and I've never been rewarded for any of it--in fact, in one instance, I got let go instead because I cost the company too much money and my boss didn't like me, so he gave everyone else a review/raise except me--for 3-1/2 years. And of course, I had no legal/HR leg to stand on. One of my "best" friends now has my job--the boss LOVES her.
