(15,774 posts)our ADN program. Most folks knock ADN's, but my clinicals were in the Houston Med Center (cutting edge) and I managed to pass Nursing School working full time throughout and having my daughter mid way. Toughest thing I ever did. I look back at the picture and there were some people I did not even know that showed up I was so exhausted. Everyone was going on vacation or to Disney World. Folks asked me what I was planning to do and all I could say was sleep. And I did-12+ hours for 3 days while Mom watched the baby. On the 4th day, I went back to work. Never did find time to get those advanced degrees-life has a way of happening. Get you degree ASAP before it gets harder.
I am retiring in 7 more days. I have been a School Nurse (great schedule for working moms). I will work in a hospital (making more money than I ever did as a School Nurse) and then retire totally in a few more years. This was a second career for me but the one I stuck with. I was able to comfortably raise my daughter and be there for her special activities, something many single Moms have trouble doing. And I have a nice retirement built up for me too.
Nursing has been very good to me. Try not to burn out pace yourself, it is a marathon not a sprint.
