but even she hasn't managed to design a treatment for the wet form that buys a cat significant lifespan, although her treatment protocol has extended lives here and there. The dry form has been more treatable.
Mango has probably harbored the infection since he was a kitten. It turns nasty when the cat ages or goes through a trauma like breaking a bone.
