18. I was supposed to recite a poem at our fourth grade Thanksgiving assembly.

I had it so memorized, but froze up on stage when I saw everyone out in the audience. I ran off the stage crying and felt awful and so embarrassed, but the sixth-grade boy I had a crush on at the time (Skeeter Perkins, bless you) was off stage and hugged me so I wouldn't feel so bad.

I've never gotten over my fear of speaking in public.
