On the other hand, where I live, independent bakeries are a rarity, especially those run by the umpteenth generation of German, eastern European or other immigrants. Most of the donuts are produced by chains and grocery store bakeries. Around here, Krispy Kreme is the best there is. At least it was until Dunkin Donuts came to town, which isn't saying much. A lot of the people in this region don't realize that there are way better donuts out there, because they've never had them. Sure, KK has their "Hot Donuts Now" gimmick, but mass-produced glazed donuts are mass-produced glazed donuts.
