He married Maria Sanchez in 1997.
He himself said on-air that his wife, Maria, was a Republican Party fund-raiser.
They were married for 10 years.

I listened to him back in the mid-1990s, on KFI AM, (before he married her), and he seemed to be fairly moderate in his political beliefs back then.

He was on KFI AM from 7 to 10 PM weeknights (He followed the "Karel and Andrew" show on KFI)

Then, more stations picked him up, but (I think) he still ran the show out of KFI

I always thought it was more than coincidence that he changed from being a moderate to being much more conservative after marrying Maria Sanchez.

The conspiracy nut in me makes me wonder if the "Powers that be" who ran the Republican Party back then (and still do) somehow "arranged" for him to meet Maria Sanchez in the first place.
After all, he probably had hundreds of thousands of regular listeners even while he was still at KFI
