In reply to the discussion: What is your biggest pet peeve? [View all]The Velveteen Ocelot
(130,759 posts)83. Gaaahh! That's one of my big ones.
I hate that. It's kind of like they've responded to your polite expression of gratitude with, "Meh, it doesn't mean anything." I realize that's not what's intended, but... yuk.
And another thing I've noticed lately: It used to be that retail people (sales clerks, waitpersons, etc.) would end a transaction with "Have a nice day." I never hear that any more; instead, it's "Have a great day," or "Have a wonderful day." Apparently "nice" was insufficient for the bosses of retail workers; it has to be a superlative day. So now it sounds more insincere than ever.
Oh, and all those people need to get off my lawn.

Ouch, I do the "people that" thing. Plus, my writing grammar leaves a lot to be desired.

Currently, it's the incorrect punctuation of appositives. Commas fore and aft, people!

I'm have to admit, I never thought about that being the reason for the disappearance.

I hope he'll learn from this one attempt at humor that abuse isn't acceptable.
