Reasoning isn't easy and has to be learned. Reasoning through complex ideas and issues is even harder. When you're mentally lazy, or not possessed of very much in the way of mental horsepower to begin with, it's far too difficult to reason things through; it's so much easier to settle for simple, inevitably wrong, platitudes.
