In reply to the discussion: How did you meet your SO? (Significant Other) [View all]I met my wife in a chow line.
We were both on active duty in the U.S. Army, in the 414th Signal Company, Ft. Meade, MD. I'd been assigned there in March of '75, and she got there about a year later...both of us having been stationed in South Korea prior to going to Meade. We even had a mutual friend named Parker who had been a classmate and card-buddy of mine in AIT, who wound up assigned to her unit. He taught her to play spades.
Her first day in the 414th, she'd reached a stopping place in her in-processing, and I'd slipped away a bit early. We were the first two people in line at the mess hall, and as we stood there waiting for the door to open I noticed she was wearing an I Corps unit patch on her sleeve. "So," was my opening line, "you're just coming from Korea. What unit?" and the conversation went from there.
We had our first "official" date a couple weeks later-- Robin Trower, with Head East as opening act, at the Capital Center in Largo, MD-- and got married six months after that, right after I got out of the service. We've been together ever since.
That was thirty-six flown-by years ago.
