news was 15 minutes so they had entertainment shows on for 15 minutes. One was Jonathan Winters with a random table of props, His staff would prepare it and he would see it for the first time when they hweeled itout and then he would go crazy with what every prop he chose for the non advertising part of 15 minute show.
Bob Newharts show was him doing one monologue.
These shows were fantastic, and than at night we would watch the show of show with Sid Ceaser and the Ernie Kovak's show,.

There was a lot of talented comedians around then.

I think you might be too young to remember when someone finally decided that howdy Doody ws too ugly,but how to change the star of the year round children's show? - hee, they gave him plastic surgery,his head was in bandaids for weeks. This is so long ago, I can barely remember it, I must have been 4. probably not even the 50's yet. 49?
