In reply to the discussion: Decided to quit smoking, any tips? [View all]PufPuf23
(9,726 posts)21. My Dad took up regular chewing gum in his early 60s and cold turkeyed from
50 years of smoking 2-3 packs a day of unfiltered Lucky Strikes. He lived to 86.
My Mom could not quit even after lung removed, heart attack and emphysema and died at age 63.
I have never used tobacco but likely childhood health problems were from Mom's smoking.
You see people use nicotine gum or e-cigarettes and Wellebrutin sp? (and there must be other rx drugs available now).
If you are single, find a new love.

The gum helped me a great deal. I would have the gum during work and only smoke at home.

Another sign I'm getting old. Quit smoking 30 years ago. Two ways to go. Cold turkey or tapering off

I'm not much of a taperer myself! Have just gone cold turkey with the help of a vape pen....
