(9,028 posts)I actually forgot one. His name is Hart and he is a grey striped feral. When we trapped him and took him to the vet it was discovered that he had a heart murmur. The vet told us we could put him down or let him live out his natural life. We decided on the latter. Problem with ferals is that you can not give them medicine. Hart is still with us and thriving. As you probably guessed we have a feral cat problem in our neighborhood. Along with me, two other neighbors (cat lovers) also trap, spay and neuter our little colony. We have managed to keep the colony down to a manageable size but it is an ongoing process. I can tell you we feed them well and put vitamins in their food. I even had a cat patio built on the side of my house so that they have some privacy when they eat and I have some cat houses so they can escape the rain and cold, thankfully, rain and cold are not something we experience too often in Las Vegas. In Las Vegas we are able to register our cat colonies, which means animal control will not pick them up and we can feed them without breaking the law. Used to be that if you fed feral cats they were considered yours and were your responsibility. Thanks to the new law that is no longer the case.
