Most will read the code for free, but they may or may not clear it for you. If you google your car model and obd, you will probably find all sorts of information about where the obd connector is in your car and what the most common codes are.

Oh, the only reason I'm going there first is because they're the ones who did the oil change.

I would check the oil (with the dipstick) first before taking it to a mechanic.

It depends. You can buy a code reader on Amazon.com or get one at the local auto parts store

get it checked. if it's a honda civic, it may just be that the O2 sensor died. otherwise it could be
