I saw the Kinks back in the late 70s at Winterland (SF) and I think they did "Lola"
I also saw Country Joe do "Sweet Loraine" (on more than one occasion) at the Fillmore Auditorium.
(I'm pretty sure I saw Wilson Pickett at least once at the old Fillmore as well.)
A great '90s film about the formation of a soul band in Dublin is called The Commitments"
and the very first song they work on is "Mustang Sally"
Near the end of the movie, they do a version of it that is so good it makes Wilson Picket's version pale in comparison.
