(14,172 posts)We lost a cat to this. She had a alight problem with a heart murmur all her life. This first happened when she was about 10-11 years old. Fortunately, it dislodged and didn't happen again for 2 years. The vet told us it would probably happen again. It didn't dislodge the second time, pain medication didn't help much, and we had to humanely euthanize her.
Vet had told us earlier about the heart murmur and potential problems. Also, that it was extremely painful. So we had the advantage of knowing what might happen and were "sort of" prepared for it.
Symptoms were continual "crying", alternating between curling up and trying to stretch out and walk. Back legs were not functional. The first time, she also urinated and defecated in her bed.
It was so sad, mostly because she was in so much pain.
