At the Art Institute you'll see paintings you've only seen in books.

If you're into architecture, Chicago has several hones designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and they have tours.

If you want to see more than a couple of places, a City Pass might be a good deal for you.

I recommend staying on Michigan Ave (Magnificent Mile) or the Loop. You'll have the best access to mass transit and will be able to walk many places. I've stayed at the Palmer House and the Fremont (both nice) and the House of Blues Hotel (men).
