9. When I was very young, growing up in San Antonio,

Spring meant sleeping with the window open at night, and waking to the smell of honeysuckle drifting in through the window.

On warm nights, the neighbor's cat would jump up on my window sill and start meow-ing. He couldn't get in because of the screen, but he would sound off a few times (we could barely see him, since he was black against the black night), and then hop off the sill and lope along somewhere. To hunt, I guess.
