(21,925 posts)I've been with DU since 2003. My DU name comes from words spoken in a song by Jimi Hendrix, who was my complete idol in the 60s when I was a teen learning to play guitar in my first band. I followed him around and attended three of his concerts. I have backstage photos of him that I took. I dropped out of college in the 70s to tour with a soul band and at 62, I still play guitar, but now it's mainly bebop jazz on a nylon string guitar. I was born on a U.S. Air Force base in Germany (my dad was a career officer and WWII hero mentioned in John Steinbeck's "Once There Was A War"
and my mom is French. I have a Master's in French Studies, a J.D. of law, an an MFA in film from UCLA. I worked in the movie biz for awhile, mainly for Dino DeLaurentiis doing mostly reading. For awhile I could go through five scripts from the slush pile in under five hours and write coverage. I spent several years in the law in California doing workers comp and personal injury which I hated. The last 16 years I've been doing immigration law in a Chinese law firm near L.A. I've gone to China several times to represent clients before the U. S. Consulates. When I was 13, I had the great privilege of seeing President Kennedy only a few feet in front of me when he came to my town and his open car stopped in front of my house and he said a few words to the crowd that lined the streets. It was just a few months before Dallas. I have a pet desert tortoise that is nearly forty years old. My greatest passion in life is the underground: I fell in love with caves and caving in grade school, I still adore spelunking, and I hold lifetime membership in the National Speleological Society.
