It belonged to my late older brother, who bought it for $50.00 at 16 years old in 1969. He always said that if anything ever happened to him, he wanted me to take it. He passed 5 years ago. I haven't ever yet tried to change the title over, but it's mine. And while it's only been sort of mine for 5 years it's been in the family for almost a half century.
I'm not sure I'll ever get to drive it. It's been on blocks under tarps, in my Moms back yard since the mid '70s. I rode in it a lot when I was little.
I say it's a mutt because the only thing "Ford" about it is the body. After buying it, my brother gutted the original flat head engine, and after some major surgery, dropped in a 394 cubic inch oldsmobile engine with a 3 speed Olds manual transmission. I remember, as a very young kid, my brother and his buddies working on that thing nights and weekends for what seemed like forever, but was really just a couple of years. The rear end and radiator are Cadillac. The seats are out of a 1958 Chevy.
It needs a lot of work. At the very least rewiring. It was a 6 volt system made to work off a 12 volt battery and generator by way of 2 big square ceramic things that cut the voltage somehow. Those things failed and burned up the wiring. Greg parked it in '74 or '75 meaning to one day fix it up, but never did get around to it. By then he also had a '68 GTO. He always said that Ford was way faster than the Pontiac.
Sorry to ramble on so much. This brought back a flood of memories I hadn't really thought about in a very long time.
