Very odd interaction at the liquor store [View all]

Yesterday I went to the liquor store to pick up some beer.

As I was heading toward the entrance there was also a guy heading there and I beat him to the door.

So I opened the door and held it and he looked at me and said, "Go ahead" so I handed off the door and went inside.

Once inside he said to me, "You weren't going to hold the door for me were you?" And I said "Yes, actually I was." He then said,
" I couldn't have come in the door if you were holding it for me."

My reaction (in my head) was WTF? I don't look elderly, did he think I was incapable of holding the door?

When I got home I told my husband and my son and his GF and they all agreed the guy was a sexist and thought he was ridiculous.

If only I knew he couldn't go in if I held the door I could have stood there all day holding it and just looking at him.
