person welcomed us to the neighbourhood. Not one.
Our neighbours never spoke to us, never acknowledged our presence unless I spoke first.
We had an elderly couple living across from us and I'd take her some tomatoes in summer and say hello when I'd see her out. Her husband was ill and when he passed away (I saw the ambulance and read the obit) I put together a basket of healthy type snacks for her and anyone who might visit. She really appreciated it and sent a lovely thank you card.

Fast forward to this past year. 2 homes have sold and I've made it a point to bake something and take it as a welcome to our new neighbours. They seemed SO surprised but grateful. Where I'm from it's what you do.
I don't get around much these days so it's nice to have a connection.

A neighbour I've befriended is terminally ill and she's give her only son my contact info because I visit her at least once a week or chat on the phone with her. I'd like to know if she needs anything extra and I'm hoping he will inform me if need be. I can contact him if I have concerns about his Mom.

I would like to think I've made someone smile today.
