who are their "cousins". They look very similar to the Akita as well except the face is more fox-like rather than bear-like and they're smaller. Just like the Akita, they need a strong alpha owner. I suppose with their smaller size they can get into slightly less destructive mischief than the Akita. LOL!
I never understood why "Inu" is part of the breed name since in Japanese "inu" means "dog". Other Japanese breeds don't have "inu" attached to the name (nobody calls Akitas "Akita Inu"
, so I always thought it was odd that the Shiba breed does have the attached "inu" as part of the breed name. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. But as much as it doesn't make sense, I like the name "Shiba Inu" rather than just plain "Shiba". Go figure.
Both the Akita and the Shiba Inu have the same thick double coat that's just marvelously soft and wonderful.
