33. I know someone who got a Shiba puppy this week.

Bet it's the cutest thing in the world.

I think the reason for the name is that "shiba" means "brushwood" (a description of the dog's reddish color), or, in an older dialect, "small." So it makes sense to add "inu" (dog); basically the breed name means "small reddish dog."

I'd love to have one, but they are said to have a strong prey drive so it probably wouldn't get along with my 3 cats.
