(9,677 posts)A feral cat abandoned 2 kittens at my back door 17 years ago. The male died but the female lived on to become a wonderful pet which is unusual for a feral cat. I named her Rugrat because she was born in a rug out in a field and she looked like a rat when I found her. She developed pneumonia at age 15 and went downhill fast. She refused to eat or drink and got down to 5 lbs. The vet said he couldn't do anything for her and suggested she be put down. That was hard. The morning came and she purred as I petted her for the last time. I felt awful. I buried her in the back yard and still plant Impatiens on it in the summer. It took me 21 months before I even wanted a cat again. But I adopted not one but TWO tabby cats from the local shelter and they are a joy. Trust me - it works so you can look forward to a cat to replace Tink in due time.
