It was the silent, older boomer, and older X generations that did.

So before you go bashing them for their naivety or a bit of overenthusiasm, remember that they at least knew a grifter when they saw one.

Also, don't forget for a second that in the 1970s, there were literally days where the smog was so thick you couldn't see, litter was everywhere, and rivers caught on fire.

"I blew out my flip flop, Stepped on a pop top; Cut my heel, had to cruise on back home." was because beaches were filled with trash.
