(10,883 posts)...Tom Cruise is winning. He's okay, usually average or above; he doesn't go outside of his boundaries much, which is good. He does attempt to play a character. There are no really great actors on your list, though... Angelina Jolie had something in a couple of early perfs, but wasn't able to repeat... John Wayne was not a natural actor. He was a terrible actor, but filmed well in the 1930s. He developed a screen persona and acted that way successfully... Some of the choices aren't much as actors, like Adam Sandler. They play a persona. They are likeable as their persona... it's a bit like Shirley Temple. She was not a good actress at all, but she was a terrific entertainer. Probably, we should think of some actors more as "stars" or "entertainers" because many of the can't really act.
