11. Dion is a great artist- the King of the Streets of New York, but he's a liar.

Since Waylon Jennings passed away many years ago, Dion has come out with a story that conflicts Waylon's version of what happened on 'the Day the Music Died'.

Waylon (Buddy Holly's bassist on the Winter Dance Party tour), Tommy Alsup (Buddy's guitarist) and Bob Hale (WDP emcee) all have told much the same story since it happened: The Big Bopper had been pestering ol Waylon about giving up his seat on the plane, finally Waylon agreed. Ritchie Valens also wanted a seat on the plane and pestered Tommy about it until Tommy agreed to have a coin flip which Ritchie won the right to a seat on the plane.

The only difference in the stories of these people was that Tommy said he flipped the coin and Bob Hale claimed he did it.

Now Dion comes around saying that he flipped the coin, won the right to be on the plane but gave up his seat because he was too cheap to afford the $36.

The truth is that Dion is a gutless liar who didn't have the courage to tell his story when Waylon was alive. He's just trying to generate some buzz for himself IMO. Tommy Alsup used to holler threats to Dion from the Surf Ballroom stage (they still have the WDP every year in tribute to Buddy etc) Tommy passed away earlier this year.
