A clique of very right-wing MI5 officers with links to the CIA and Britain's Conservative Party convinced themselves that moderate-left PM Harold Wilson was a KGB agent.

Their plan was to destabilise Wilson's government in the event that it pursued "overly-socialist policies", the idea being that it would be replaced by a military coup headed by Prince Charles' uncle Lord Mountbatten.
