Some say we came close to martial law in this country with Bush's bank debacle. I think that may not be far off, and not to get to far into conspiracy theories you've got to wonder if there was an under the table deal that if Bush went quietly there would be no prosecutions. I mean you have to wonder with all the damage he did.

That said, and given what we've seen in the past, I think this could happen under any administration - democratic or republican. Of course they will declare martial law if they feel threatened. Conditions will dictate when that happens and it most certainly could happen here.
