You can usually substitute a same-weight yarn if the yardage is the same, but there can be differences if the yarns are different fibers. Some yarns, like wool, draw in while others, like silk, drape.

Since it's a blanket, this might work anyway, you shouldn't be too far off, and a small difference in finished size won't be a problem.
