BTW, your 'first cousins son' ... is aka your 'first cousin, once removed'.

People are first cousins when their common ancestors are the grandparents of the earliest generation of the pair. If you're the same generation, you're first cousins, and then you add 'X removed' as you differ in generation level ... so your first cousin's kids are your 'first cousins, once removed' ...

Note that this means that your parents cousins ... are also your 'first cousins once removed' (as you are of theirs)... but THEIR kids ... are your 'Second Cousins' ... because 2nd Cousins means the common ancestor of the earliest generation of the pair ... is that persons great-grandparents.

In a general sense, your first cousins are all of your grandparent's direct offspring (unless your mom/dad/aunt/uncle), your second cousins are your grandparents sibling's offspring (with the exception of your parents cousins, who are your first cousins, once removed, and your great aunt-uncle, who I *THINK* ... are technically your first cousins, twice removed) ... and your 3rd cousins are your grandparents cousins' offspring.

Simple, yeah?
