I think it was because they were not the Beatles that I began to realize that it was a music movement, not just that The Beatles were a great band. The Kinks will always have a special place in my heart. Their music spans generations and it shows. Of course I have played their music many times in bands over the years. It is always a hit. (I will never forget doing 'Lola' at one bar in Georgia and everyone there was singing along with it. The sight of a bunch of cowboy hats, backwards baseball caps, and bandannas singing that last verse will never stop being funny to me.)

It is tough to single out a tune as the favorite from this band..., but this one is certainly in contention.

(I usually shed a tear when I think of what he is singing about. They obviously loved their sister and think of her all the time.)

"Come Dancing" is a tribute to the Davies' older sister Rene. Living in Canada with her reportedly abusive husband, the 31-year-old Rene was visiting her childhood home in Fortis Green in London at the time of Ray Davies' 13th birthday on which she surprised him with a gift of the Spanish guitar he had tried to persuade his parents to buy him. That evening, Rene, who had a weak heart as a result of a childhood bout of rheumatic fever, suffered a fatal heart attack while dancing at the Lyceum ballroom.
