Country Music? [View all]
So I'm watching the DVR, and the program ends and on comes the ACM awards. So I end up watching maybe 5 whole minutes. Now, I'll freely admit I'm not much of a country music fan. And I'm also not one to particularly get all caught up in discussions of "authentic" when in comes to various music styles. And yes I'm well aware of the "cross over" concept. None the less, I basically saw two acts, neither of which could in anyway be remotely considered country music. That is, unless just adding a fiddle to the band makes it country.
I mean the first act was basically hip hop. Some woman whom I'm sure I'm supposed to recognize was singing with some dancers. I mean, one of the dancers was doing "break dancing" for goodness sake. Some guy has on a crooked ball cap. Someone else had some multicolored pork pie hat on. The second act actually had some duet with a guy that was actually described as a hip hop artist if I heard correctly.
It's not that I really care, it just seems that if you're going to have a whole awards show for one narrow slice of the music category, separate from the Grammy's, it seems one would stick to that style, or at least close to it.
