political and musical mentor, would say go beyond the mainstream top pop songs and check out -

The Cure, New Order, Eurythmics, Talking Heads, Depeche Mode, Public Image Limited. That kinda thing.

Oh, and I forgot about Dark Wave.

I bet there was some heavy Dark Wave in 1985.
