especially if you're doing live view, but I like to look through the viewfinder, so if I'm holding the monopod out away from my body a bit and then pull the camera to my eyes, it will tilt up. Also if I want to shoot down, I would be able to hold the monopod vertical and then point the camera down using the ball head. It just seems a little more flexible to me to have one. I'm sure it's a matter of personal preference.
