27. IMO the contests are fine, leave them be

I haven't entered as much lately as I used to because I've been too busy to take many new photos and some of the themes aren't my niche - but that's fine, when I'm not so busy (or lazy) I might force myself to go out and expand my horizons. I do think there's somewhat of a correlation between the number of entries and how 'specialized' the theme is.

Yes, hosting a contest is a little bit of work but it's not terrible. I really don't think that a fear of hosting the next contest has much to do with it, most everyone wants to be King or Queen for a month. I had a blast the time I won and was able to host, hopefully I'll be lucky enough to do it again.

Finally, I wouldn't worry about whether there are a full 30 entries or not. Actually I think 30 is kind of a lot, I've always felt like that's nothing more than a good upper limit to keep the contest from being really unwieldy.
