I got blocked from my own daughter’s group after stepping in that. You would have thought I was recommending cannibalism. Who knew?

Among other things I recommended they read “Mrs Mike,” about a young woman who moves to a Canadian village and marries a local man, maybe a century ago, maybe less. (Iirc, it is based on a true story.) I read it when I was young, and the scene that burned into my heart was of her walking past the graveyard with a slightly older woman with several kids, who gestured to a cluster of small graves and said, “That’s my first family.” Because, you know, effing childhood diseases swept through every couple of years.

Old graveyards are full of children's graves.
