15. About Deerie...I don't want any lectures on how I'm going against nature...I know it and I don't

Care! About 3 years ago, my husband came home with a fawn in his arms. He'd almost run over it. The baby was lying on our ranch road on a decline, so he was hidden until it might be too late. Luckily, my husband doesn't speed. We always have milk powder and bottles around, so I started feeding him right away. Since I had to retire from cat rescue, the thing I miss more than anything is bottle feeding. It's such fun to see their excitement when they see a bottle. They'll fight each other to stay on the bottle. They stretch out both arms into the air in bottle ecstasy. They try to put the whole nipple and bottle into their mouths. Growling, slapping siblings away...bottle time is a hoot for everyone!!!

I'm pretty sure I never intended to wean Deerie off the bottle... Who would be that stupid, given how much pleasure it gives all concerned?
We put him out to graze at the appropriate time, but we still had our breakfast bottle and night cap. So, he's weaned... and not!

In our years together, he's run off twice... but shown up the next morning to come home. I found a vet who would neuter him...we have laws to insure that nothing interferes with the deer population's ability to go forth and multiply to keep hunters happy and sell hunting licenses. I don't care! Our previous game wardens have learned to turn a blind eye to what goes on at our place... easier on everyone!

So that's Deerie!!! My 80 lb. baby, cause that's the way.. uh huh, uh huh.. we like it!!!!! So does a registrar at our hospital in another town. She keeps a folder in her office of Deerie photos so she can periodically brighten her day!!!
