I had an apartment next to the Auburn-Opelika (Alabama) Drive-In theater, and I watched "Vanishing Point" (and other movies) sitting on a limb in a tree in my yard (to see over the fence), with a bag of chips and a six-pack of beer hoisted up by rope. Not long back from Vietnam, I identified with Kowalski's (Barry Newman) rebellious nature.
