I'm 73 years old and that's the only time I've seen the leaves fall like that.
I did originally grow up in northern New York State, until the age of 14, and got to see spectacular fall colors every year. I miss that, even after all these years.
I have had the pleasure of living in several different parts of the country, and because I love fall, I have carefully noticed what it's like in different places. I'm currently in New Mexico, and our leaves here mostly turn bright yellow. I went for a drive earlier today with a friend and we agreed that the trees were prettier, a brighter yellow, than they'd been in recent years.
When I lived in the Kansas City area, I noticed that the trees turned shades of peach and purple that I have never seen anywhere else. And the fall colors typically last much longer there than in many other places.
When I lived in DC, what was best was that we really and truly had four seasons. All were gorgeous. One year, starting in the fall, we had four spectacular seasons in a row. That year the fall colors were amazing, and many days when I got off work (I worked at DCA, Washington National Airport) and lived in Alexandria, VA, I'd drive all the way to Mt. Vernon on the George Washington Parkway just to see the beautiful trees. Winter was relatively cold and snowy. A real winter. Spring was phenomenal. The dogwood trees, in particular, blossomed incredibly well. Actually, even a poor spring there is pretty good. Summer was nice because that year, the fourth of these four consecutive seasons, it did not get above 90 degrees until after the 4th of July, which meant we didn't have as much oppressive heat as usual.
I love weather. I love the seasons. I love it that where I currently live I have very dark skies so I get to see the stars and the planets well. Lucky me.
